Ferry terminals can be busy and chaotic. Arrive early, check in, and find a comfortable seat before boarding.
Bring Your Passport
Non-citizens need a valid passport to board. Tanzania nationals need a National ID. Keep it accessible.
Rough Sea Warning
The crossing can be rough, especially during rainy season. Sit in the middle of the boat for a smoother ride.

Most nationalities receive a visa on arrival at Zanzibar port. The standard fee is $50 USD (single entry). Citizens of East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi) do not need a visa. We recommend checking with your embassy before travel.
Yes. Immigration and customs checks apply at all our ferry terminals, similar to arriving by air. Non-citizens should have their passport ready, and standard entry procedures (including the visa mentioned above, if applicable) apply on arrival.
Economy class has standard seats with open seating. Business class offers reserved, more comfortable seats, sometimes with AC and a lounge area. For longer crossings or rough weather, Business class is recommended.
Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar (Stone Town) takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the ferry and sea conditions. Zanzibar to Pemba takes approximately 5–6 hours.
Yes. Children aged 2–11 typically pay 50% of the adult fare. Infants under 2 travel free. We handle all child ticket bookings — just tell us the ages when you enquire.
Ferries may cancel due to bad weather or technical issues. If your ferry is cancelled, we will notify you immediately and help rebook the next available departure at no extra charge.
Yes. Each passenger is allowed standard luggage. Excess luggage may incur a small fee. We recommend keeping valuables in your carry-on during the crossing.
